fux525STPWD with GP1870F ?

I am interested in Bottom Discrimination . Will I get good performance with the transom mount fux525STPWD on a GP1870F. Shallow salt water < 8 fathoms.
I am a commercial crabber so finding fish / seeing fish is of no interest to me, but BOTTOM DISCRIMINATION could be very handy.

If you have smooth water flow over the face of the transducer it should work OK. But keep in mind that transom mounted transducers are subject to turbulence that can affect the sounders performance. The Bottom Discrimination mode uses both frequencies when classifying the seabed even though you may be only displaying 50 or 200Khz.

Depending on where the transducer is mounted on the transom, slower speeds generally have less turbulence.
