FR-10 and FR-12

A Furuno brochure states that the "FR10 and FR12 are compatible with any of the DRS series Antennas. So, we ordered one up to install with an existing DRS4DL. As it is, we get a communication warning stating no antenna found.

A little more research notes that the FR10 series is compatible with the DRS4DL+. But find nothing noting it is not compatible with the DRS4DL. What is the difference between the two sensors and is it possible to upgrade via software. We can't seem to locate a description of either that resolves our question.
 
Looking at the brochure it is talking about any of the DRS units listed on said brochure. The DRS4DL isn't sold anymore as it was discontinued a few years back. Furuno USA only sells the DRS4DL+. It also won't work with older DRS units like that of the NN3D. Sorry for your confusion.

The older DRS4DL is diffrent hardware and can not be updated to become a DRSDL+. The DL didn't support ARPA which hardware and changes were added making the newer DRSDL+ design. The FR10/12 are not compatible with the older DL, unfortunately.
