19mal71,
Judging from the FCV588's returns the bottom echoes appear that it could be sandy to a mild muddy bottom, And the fish targets could be anywhere from 6 inches up to 18 inches. But not knowing how the unit is setup, I would be only guessing. :think
However, you should be utilizing two FCV588's features that can help you. ACCU-FISH mode that is a fish size assessment function which assess individual fish size, echo returns are evaluated based on strength and turned into fish size display on screen. It can detect fish size from about 4 inches (10 cm) to 6.5 feet (199 cm), in depths of around 6 feet (2 m) to over 325 feet (100 m).
The other feature is Bottom Discrimination mode that enables the FCV588 to indicate whether the bottom is composed mainly of rocks, gravel, sand or mud. But keep in mind of certain factors when using both ACCU-Fish and Bottom Discrimination modes:
• Use at a depth of 16.5 feet (5 meters) to over 320 feet (100 meters)
• To show a consistent display of the actual bottom, set the display range to "Auto"
• Be sure to enter the vessel's draft value in the FCV588
• Use a ship speed of 10 knots or less
• In some instances, the bottom component indicated can differ from the actual bottom structure
Only choose one feature. Either use the ACCU-Fish or Bottom Discrimination, but do not run both the features at the same time.
