FCV295 for Bottom discrimination

I am in the process purchasing an FCV295 and i would like to have an opinion on Transducer choice. My first concern is the bottom discrimination, the ability to find hard bottoms in the mud , like flat rocks which would be not noticeable from the Height and depth Change.
The depth which interests me is from 60 - 120 meters ( about 180 - 350 feet)
I do know that the newer Transducers with Low ringing ( Low Q) they do not provide enought bottom trail to Show the difference

Could you help me with choosing the right Transducer for this Task?
Thank you

Aggeloseco,
I would favor the CA38BL-9HR because of its slightly wider beam width. Second choice would be the CA50BL-12HR. Both have the same shape and mounting style.

Wider beamwidth would not be less concentrated? A wide cone gan give Bottom Discrimination changes even if the Object is samller than the Cone itself?

Aggeloseco,
There are a couple ways to look at bottom hardness. One is the tail of the primary echo and the second is to look at the strength of the second/third echoes. How are you currently judging the hardness of the bottom?

Snips

At the Moment I have a FF from another Manufacter and I am judging the hardness from the second echo , but it gives me a second echo only untill 50 meters approximately.
Untill what Depth can the FCV with a 2 KW transducer the second echo Show?

And when the Botton have disperced Corals on it would it give a second echo as well?

Appeloseco,
Hard to say for sure, but I am confident that either transducer will work for you. I have attached a couple of screen shots that may help you decide. The first is a FCV-295 using two different 1kw 200Khz transducers in 70m. The LF side was using a 12 degree and the HF side (right) a 25 degree. The second attachment is beam width vs. bottom hardness.

SO as I Understood the Wider cone will give better results with more rebust colors. That could be due to side lobes
From your experience until what depth should i get a secoond return? With the 2 KW

Aggeloseco,
Again it is hard to say a depth range. However the below screen shot is showing two different transducers at 38Khz at a 1kw power setting.

OK I see.. Is there any transducer with fairing block available ?
Because I think CA38BL-9HR would be difficult to mount , actually I havent understand how it would be mounted

Aggeloseco,
You could try using the 1kw 526TID-HDN, it has a nice fairing block.

Aggeloseco,
Is it the best transducer for what you are look do. No, but it is the only transducer that has a premade fairing block that "MAY" work. The CA50/200-12M is a better overall transducer but it doesn't come with a fairing block. If you are crafty, you could buy a B-260 fairing and with a slight modification make it work with the 12M. However neither of these are my 1st or 2nd choice for what you are looking to do.

Snips I came up with that it would be better to identify bottoms with he second or third line. I thnik this will be easier. what transducer would be your choice then
Thank you and sorry for the mess..´!

Aggeloseco,
If you are going to use the second/third echoes you would be OK using an R-109LH or LM.
