FCV-800 vs Tx Touch XL

Hi Team,

Will there be any sonar quality or major feature differences between the inbuilt sonar in TxT Xl 13" MFD compared to standalone FCV-800?

I am looking at 2x TztXL 13" however am considering pivoting to 1x TzXL 13 and 1x FCV-800, and besides the obvious differences in these configurations, just wondering if I will be gaining or loosing anything from a sonar performance perspective.

If bottom discrimination is important you might check that it's available on the XL. I know it is on the 800 so long as the specified transducers are used.

It's largely a matter of whether you want separate instruments for sounder; many people do. Perhap aimed differently or not wanting to lose their radar or plotter screen while fishing or split screen not being big enough. The tall format of the fcv800 also belies it's smaller size. It might be a taller sounder picture than the 13x; some people want tall sounder, other people want wide sounder.

Probably the biggest difference is that you can connect two transducers to the FCV800, which allows you for example to have low, medium, and high CHIRP or low/high CHIRP and also CW. On the other hand, the 13X has side scan if that is of interest to you.

Thanks - bottom discrimination is listed feature of the TztXL, pending compatiable transducer

Appreciate that. More wondering if the underlying circuitary (power feed, capacitors etc) is any different between the two. For example in other brands, it's know their MFDs are somewhat inferior units to their dedicated fish finders which look near comparable on the spec sheet.

I mostly sell/fix another brand (which Furuno would probably rather I not use the forum to promote) they have used the same circuits (power supply PCBs, sounder modules) amongst plotters/sounders and sounders . My observation with the Furunos is that people who really like their Furuno standalone sounder might keep it for 15-25 years, but change MFDs more often unless tied to a particular radar.

Generally the more you pay, the more modularity / repairability you get. Separate PCBs for power input, controls/keypad, etc... A budget sounder will make everything possible on one pcb to reduce the parts count and assembly skill. But it's much easier doomed with minor damage.

The FCV 800 also has REzboost for the CW transducers, i think that rezboost is brilliant, Dont understand why its been excluded from the TZT XL. Perhaps the processing power of the XL it doesnt need it.???

Para. 6.16 in the TZTXL manual seems to indicate Rezboost is an option with one of the correct transducers. What made you think it was excluded from XL?
