Good morning Farmer,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your inquiry.

For what you are doing the P66 Transducer will work just fine. At that depth, the P66 will be right at home.

Kind Regards,

farmer56 here thanks c-bass ... a little more history ... my old unit is a lowance x-85 new in 1999 , don't know if transducer is 8 degree or 20 degree but it is
197 khz 3000 watt .. was state of the art in my day for my budget .. target separation from bottom is outstanding with that unit ... walleye main target and they hug the bottom ... i'm sure i would have only bought the 20 degree ducer but i will have to look for markings on ducer ... i could mark fish that other boats with lesser units never saw ... that's why the question about the p66 vs. tm258 will the tm285 give me better clarity or target acquisition for the bottom feeding walleye ... or is this 628 unit such a vast step up in time that the p66 will even blow me away ... thanks for listening farmer56 out

farmer56,

The P66 is a 600 Watt 50/200 kHz transducer that gives you a 45 degree beamwidth on 50kHz and an 11 degree beamwidth on 200kHz side.

However, the TM258 is a 1kW transducer that can give a 600 watt sounder 25 times better sensitivity if you compare it to a typical standard mounted transom transducer. The TM258 has four 50/200 elements that focus narrow beams on both the frequencies, thus giving you crisper targets, and clearer bottom definition ability.

TM258 beamwidths: 50kHz 15 x 21 degrees 200kHz 3 x 5 degrees

Hope this helps..? ;)

farmer56 here again .... does anybody out there know how much better the furuno fcv 628 really is over the vintage lowance x-85 .... example in my farming i replaced a john deere 4560 with a case ih 235 magnum tractor about 20 years different in age .... wow no contest not a fair fight ... the newer tech. trumps the older stuff ... also still questioning a ducer upgrade p66 to a tm258 . goal is to equal or beat by a mile the lowance x-85 .... hope this finds you all well ... thanks again farmer56 out
