FAP7002/711C Factory Reset?

I was wondering if there is any way to Factory Reset (Master Reset) the autopilot?

I would like to undo all of the "self-learning" the AP may have had regarding sea states. I have, a number of times, accidentally left the AP engaged with the boat in neutral and I am suspicious that may have impacted the self-learning of the sea states.

The boat seems to swerve a little when running in flat seas. I went through all the standard procedures to correct as outlined in the installation manual, but still have not had any luck. The problem only started to occur towards the end of the season. Prior to that the system ran normal.

You probably should have posted this in the AP section but the problem you have is similar to what my 711c was doing last year after it was installed for a few years. I didn't do a reset to fix it but my thread is here:

There is a reset or "All Clear" setting that restores all the factory defaults. It can be found on page 7-45 of the 711c operator's manual.
BTW - if you are looking to reset the controller and display you might want to go ahead and install the latest software for the AP if yours is running an older version. That Navpilot software download page is located here:

Good luck.

Great info...thanks!

Yes, I am going to do the TZT2 and 711C software updates this weekend. Once that is done I was planning to do a re-calibration of the heading sensor.

The condition I was experiencing was in flat water, the AP was constantly adjusting the steering. Even when it didn't need to. Turning off the AP and taking my hands of the wheel and the boat would track straight. So no adjustments by the AP should have been needed.

I played with all the sea state adjustments, both manual and auto...no luck. That's what left me to wonder if the "self-learning" learned wrong due to me taking the boat out of gear with the AP on. The boat would sit there and jiggle the motors while in neutral. I will avoid doing that this year.

I don't know if leaving the AP engaged while the boat is not moving would cause the problems you are having but I always try to avoid doing that. On my setup the AP will force the motors hard over in one direction or the other in an effort to force a heading change. Not that great for the pump and steering system.
In fact, I think the AP should issue an alarm or warning when it senses that boat speed is basically zero and possibly switch to STBY mode automatically.
