DRS4D Settings for Birds

I'm not quite ready for fork out another $2K for a DRS4D-NXT when my DRS4D has minimal usage on it. I would like to know if you have any recommendations for manually adjusting the settings to optimize the DRS4D for birds in clear weather and calm conditions. Thanks.

MarMax,

To set a radar up for finding the birds you will want to have everything out of Auto and in manual mode. Turn your Rain and Sea all the way to 0 . Then take your Gain and turn it up until it washes out the screen with returns. Then start backing the Gain down until the screen starts to clean up a bit. while looking for birds you want the radar to be as sensitive as possible and you may see some returns that are wave tops or other objects than birds. The best way to know what birds look like to find some birds and then slowly drive away from then and try tracking them on the radar.

I'm bringing this back to life because I've updated my DRS4D to software 3.04 which now includes a bird mode setting. I'm guessing that Furuno has created this to do what you suggested previously with some preset gain and sea setting combinations. I'd like to know the approximate parameters on the three mode choices unless it's more of a start with "calm" and see how it looks type of thing. Thank you.
