DRS2D (OR 4D ) TICKING SOUND

Hello,

I noticed that my DRS2D (possibly the DRS4D model) antenna is making an audible ticking sound when transmitting. It's at about 120 ticks per minute and only happens when in TX mode. It starts and stops immediately when turning on and off the TX mode.

I have two questions. One, any idea what's causing this sound? And two, if this thing is failing are there any topics on replacement procedures for upgrading to the wireless model of this sensor? Thank you.

System Specs:
DRS2D or DRS4D
HUB-101
(2) TZT-14 displays

My guess is moisture might be inside and the high voltage from the modulator is snapping. It also could be a capacitor breaking down and making noise. If it was me, I would pop the hood and inspect for signs of moisture or corrosion. Regardless you can not currently run our wifi radar (DRS4W) with any of the NavNets. You could get a newer DRS dome like the NXT if you have the fever.

Thank you for the response. I also contacted Furuno support and they asked me to open it up and send them a video. I did, I didn't see any signs of corrosion or moisture while it was open. They responded and suggested that maybe the belt is too tight and that I could adjust it. It hasn't been messed with and we do use it often so I'm not sure how it'd get too tight but I plan to go up the mast again tomorrow and check. I definitely do not have the itch to buy a new one...Only if absolutely necessary :D

We sail/cruise full-time and are in the northeast so we need radar. It's currently working even with the ticking sound, are the two issues you mentioned as possibilities (modulator and capacitor) a large deal to continue to use the radar in your opinion?

Thank you again.

If the techs saw a video and said they thought it was the belt is most likely is. The belt will make some noise even when new. If the belt hasn't worn and isn't slipping, I wouldn't worry. If no signs of corrosion/moisture it sounds like you are fine. You could always look over the plastic gears the belt runs on to see if a bugger got in there or a plastic tooth is broken off. If really concerned it could be sent in for evaluation.

You heard this noise with it mounted all the way up your mast? It must have been really loud.

Is it possible a mounting bolt is a little loose and it is rattling on the mount?
