Hello, I am getting a bit confused with TVG Distance, the preset TVG DIstance is set to 400. If I fish to 120meters for example, should I change it to 120?
Thank you
Aggeloseco,
There is really no hear and fast rule for what your TVG (Time Varied Gain) should be set for.
Normally the higher the TVG the higher the gain. Below is not the best example because I was in shallow water. If you really want to see how it works next time out in 200ft depth, take it all the way down and then all the way up to see it effect.
Snips, I need some clarification on this subject. I have a TZT3 internal sounder and a dff3d. The below clip is from the manual.
It states that the DFF3D and the TZT3 internal sounder actually work completely different on tvg. But it states version levels as well. Do they still work like the snippet says? If so then the dff3d works in the opposite manner as I have always expected TVG to work. More TVG always meant less detail in shallow water not more. Your example pictures appear to confirm that the dff3d still works opposite of most other sounders I am familiar with. Its interesting that they now have the tzt3 internal sounder and Dff3 working more in line with what I expect but the other black box sounders are the opposite like the DFF3D. Do you know why they chose to implement tvg in totally opposite manners with different sounders? Would it be possible to get a very granular explanation of how the tvg and tvg distance work exactly on these sounders like the dff3d? For those of us who are nerds? I would like to see your example in deep water. I can do that here on my next deep trip. In 900ft of water with the dff3d set at a tvg of 9 and a tvg distances of 300,600 and 900. What would those pictures look like as far as clutter and or returns at different areas in the depth range?
DeepsouthTX,
The TVG function on the bigger sounders (and sonars) is opposite of the smaller ones. I agree that sometimes it can be confusing. We will pass your comments along to FEC.
