Trying to use an existing transducer. Is the B260 525t-hdd #41-099-1-02 compatible with the tztl12f?

Hello C-Bass,

I am currently using an R199 that has that was setup for Garmin and I had the pigtail cutoff and a Furuno 10 pin plug put on. Below is the part number

PN 41-454-1-01

The sounder reads great to about 100 feet at up to 35 knots. After 100 feet it routinely looses signal (in both LF and HF) even at a dead standstill and never reacquires the signal. Ive' yet to have it read over 350 feet. This combo (R199 and internal sounder) should have no problem with 1500 feet plus. I'm trying to figure out where the problem might be. Could it be a transducer issue?

Thanks

Good afternoon EL39,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Can you please provide more information on how you wired the transducer to the 10 pin plug. What are your current wire pin-outs. Do you know if the GSD24 is a diplexed sounder module?

The TZT2 sounders require a diplexed transducer. If there is no internal diplexer in the transducer then it will need to be wired into a MB1100 matching box.

Could you also please provide some photos of the sounder in operation to get a better understanding of what you are looking at?

Look forward to your replies.

Kind Regards,

C-Bass

It is a diplexed transducer. I had a reputable electronics shop (Max Marine Electronics in Pompano Beach FL) put the connector on so I assume it is wired correctly but you never know. Wouldn't it not function at all if the 50khz or 200khz wires were wired incorrectly?

I will try and get some screen shots over the weekend.

Thanks

EL39,
C-Bass is correct. The TZT2 requires a di-plexed transducer, the R-199 is a non-diplexed four wire in-hull transducer. So depending on how it was wired the sounder is trying to use either the 50 or 200Khz elements for both frequencies. Your results (as you are seeing) are not going to be good.

Snips,

Thanks for your feedback. I asked Airmar and they said it should work but obviously it doesn't.

It sounds like my 2 options to make this transducer work are either an Airmar external diplexer or a DFF3?

Thanks
Eric

EL39,
Of the two, the DFF3 should give you better performance than the di-plexer. However just because you are able to apply more power it is still an in-hull transducer which has performance limitations.
