David Chua,
Furuno’s sonar oil is especially formulated to help dissipate micro-bubbles and keeping all gears and its components lubricated. So I recommend only changing it you suspect water is getting into the Soundome/Assy, or if the Soundome/Assy needs to be removed for repair and shipment, then oil must be drained completely. Also use the Soundome packing material when shipping. (refer to CH300 Installation Manual for details...)
Once the Soundome/Assy has been filled with oil, ensure that it's kept it in a vertical position to prevent any internal seepage.
It also a good idea to check these following points monthly:
• Check all the unit’s cables for any damage.
• Check all unit’s connectors for any sign of corrosion, including the earth grounds.
• Check voltage of ship’s mains to be sure it is within the equipment’s power rating.
Check these Hull Unit items twice a year:
• Lubrication Grease the raise/lower screw shaft once a year. Also, grease the raise/lower main shaft (upper part of the grease cotton retainer) about twice a year. You can access these parts by removing the raise/lower drive assembly cover.
