I have cable steering on my 26 panga. Does furuno have some kind of cable helm drive unit like simrad? Or will furuno autopilot work with the simrad drive unit?

Normally one would use a linear actuator to drive the rudder when you have a chain system. If you have an older working simrad, there is a good chance it would work with the NavPilot 711c. To be clear, you can NOT use the Navpilot 300 which is designed for center console outboard boats. The 711c has a support for sailboats/wind ect when the Navpilot 300 does not.

So no hydraulic steering cylinder by the outboard? I don't think I have seen a chain driven outboard. You can't use a linear drive with that either.

That looks much like a whitlock system used on sailboats. Systems like that which switch from chain drive to either electrical or Hydraulic requires a clutch voltage from a pilot. The NP300 doesn't have support for clutch. You would need to get the NavPilot 711C to run that system due to the clutch requirement.

Without knowing if have a suitable existing source of heading to use, I would expect you would need the Navpilot 711C. (comes with RRU and PG700 heading compass) If the boat is steel, then you would have the dealer pull the PG700 for credit and purchase a sat compass like the SCX20 for heading.
