Bottom Tracking FCV-628

Using a Fcv-628 with 525t-pwd transducer. Aluminum boat 24'. I use the 628 for bottom fishing (Halibut and Rockfish to 200') and trolling (salmon), unit works great. I also use the unit for setting shrimp pots. The procedure I use is to look for steep and deep hills. I line up on the top of the hill, motor slowly (idling) watching for graphic display and depth reading. Target is 500' to 600'. The unit will loose bottom around 150' or so (varies). I've tried everything to resolve this issue, auto fishing, auto cruising, manual gain. Anybody have any suggestions?

Alaskam5,
Without seeing the sounder I would first do a factory restore (default) of the settings. If you still are having issues please post a screen shot showing both frequencies, maybe seeing it will help us determine what is going on.

I have performed a restore function. The problem persists whether I go to HF, LF, or dual. Info I can read bottom while cruising (25MPH) reasonably well given waves or choppy water, but it is intermittent. I will try to get some screen shots next time out.

Thanks for the quick reply.
