2025 SUZUKI 300 AP WITH NAVPILOT 300

this is very confusing... after researching the threads i am more confused. i have twin 2025 suzuki 300s ap with a new navpilot 300. looking at the furuno website, its states :
"With Fantum Feedback, NAVpilot outboard/sterndrive installations no longer require use of a physical rudder feedback unit. NAVpilot software clears the path to a simplified installation, while also delivering enhanced steering control."

but just above this it states:
"*RRU (Rudder Reference Unit) required to enable Fish Hunter mode on NavPiot 711C/OB models"

however, when you look at the interconnectin diagram on the navpilot 300 brochure, it shows that it the navpilot processor fp3012 is connected to a rudder reference unit fap 6112.

also searching this forum, many state that you need the rudder reference unit for suzuki fish under and point lock to work. my main concern is getting the point lock feature to work.

so my question is, with my setup and 2025 suzuki df 300apx motors, do i need the rudder refernce unit fap 6112 to use the point lock feature? or does the fantum feekback feature as stated on the furuno website delete the need for a rudder reference unit to allow point lock to operate?

thanks

There is a difference between Fantum feedback, Fish Hunter, and "Suzuki Fish Hunter" Point Lock. It seems you are confusing them. Many of the Suzuki Fish Hunter items will work fine without an RRU but other items like POINT LOCK, require an RRU to function. The FAP6112 is in INBOARD RRU, not an outboard. For outboards folks would typically use the FAPAR4502 Teleflex Smart Stick (Owned by Dometic now). It is really important to know what steering system you have because answers change depending on that. The engines are just part of the puzzle. The pilot is turning the Steering system, which in turn moves the engines. The Dometic Optimus system is drive-by-wire and provides RRU information to the pilot, so RRU is not needed because the information is already provided. It is recommended to connect up with a smart Suzuki guy who knows the correct BCMs and steering items needed to get all the bells and whistles.

ok , so on the motors i currently have two seastar hc5345-3 cylinders, at the helm, i have a Seastar HH6542-3 Classic Tilt 2.4 Hydraulic Boat Helm Pump.
once i get the FAPAR4502 Teleflex Smart Stick, and install it, i should be able to use the point lock feature?

is there anything else that i am leaving out?

thanks

Helm pump isn't something to concern the RRU with. The OB RRU goes over one of the steering cylinders to sense the position of the engine and wire up into the processor. Having Point Lock is also dependent on having all the other "Suzuki Fish Hunter Drive" requirements like the newer motors with correct BCMs and proper gateway. If you have all that and only missing the RRU, then YES after fitting a working RRU, Point Lock should be enabled for use.

@Johnny Electron

I am specing out my retirement dreamboat electronics and engines. The Suzuki Fish Hunter looks awesome! Does Furuno do anything like this with Yamaha or Mercury? If not, does Furuno plan to? I've been reading and it looks like it's only Suzuki.

Only Suzuki at this point when it comes to special features. Mercury is owned by the same parent company that owns Navico so they tend to OEM everything Navico on their boats. While the Furuno pilot can drive most hydraulic steering systems including most Mercury, Yamaha is building their own proprietary pilot now so the options there are decided for you. The newer Yamaha EX steering is not an option for a Furuno pilot, yet the plotter system (Like XL) is.

I am looking at Helm EX and TZTouchXL 16". Will i be able to plot a course on the MFD and send it to the Helm Master EX and run it? I saw a video and it looks like it world work.
