I’m trying to connect data wires from a VesperMarine XB 6000 AIS to a Furuno 1815 Radar unit. Which wires do I connect from each unit for an NMEA 0183 protocol in order to get data?

Thank you for your inquiry,

First off does the Furuno 1815 have a source for heading data and also position data, without heading and position the AIS targets will not be displayed

If the radar does have heading and position you could use the following:
XB-6000: TX + (Gray) -------------------> 1815 Port 1: RX + (Gray/Black 1)
XB-6000: TX - (Yellow) -----------------> 1815 Port 1: RX - (Gray/Red 1)

Kind Regards,

C-Bass,
Thanks for the quick response. The Radar doesn’t have heading and position data. Are there any wires from NMEA 2 and/or 3 that should be connected?

Yes you can use Port 2 for position data and you can use port 3 for heading.

C-Bass,
Which colored wires in Port 2 and Port 3 from the Radar match with which colored wires on the Vesper AIS?

Regards from an electronic dunce,

Good afternoon,

I am a little confused, are you saying you already have data going into port 1 on the radar?

Nothing will change on the Vesper side, but the wire color codes change on the 1815 side

Oh well, please see below.

XB-6000: TX + (Gray) -------------------> 1815 Port 2: RX + (Gray/Black 2)
XB-6000: TX - (Yellow) -----------------> 1815 Port 2: RX - (Gray/Red 2)

XB-6000: TX + (Gray) -------------------> 1815 Port 3: RX + (Gray/Black 3)
XB-6000: TX - (Yellow) -----------------> 1815 Port 3: RX - (Gray/Red 3)
