Transducer options?.

Recently acquired a 50 Delta Marine charter boat with a Fcv 1000. We would like to upgrade the unit to a 688 and are curiousis we can use the existing hi speed fairing block. Unfortunately I have little info to help piece together the puzzle. The current transducer appears to be a a four pin 50b-6b/9b. Also has a 6 pin speed temp sender #2250022. Surely the transducer is obsolete, but it would save much time and yard bill if we don’t need to swap the fairing block

Cfood,
I am curious as we don't have a FCV-688 here in the US, it is either a FCV628 (600 watt) or FCV-588 (1000 watt). However the FCV-1000 was/is an over all better and more powerful sounder (1-3Kw) than either 628/588. Also the CA50B-6B & 9B are still currently available.
Is the FCV-1000 not working? The current replacement model would either be the FCV-295 or FCV-1150.

Snips,
Thanks for the quick response. 588 was the unit we were considering. Issue with the 1000 was screen brightness, as the display quality is poor and not near as crisp and sharp as the 588. We have a 2007 vintage 585 on our crab boat and find the display superior to the 1000. My thoughts, possibly naive, were that any effort spent repairing/ reconditioning the 1000 would throwing good money after bad. Your thoughts.

Cfood,
What is the main purpose of the sounder? Professional fishing/crabbing of just to see the bottom? If just to see the bottom the 628/588 with the MB-1100 will be OK.

Boat is a 50 foot charter boat, commercial passenger vessel. Rarely does it fish outside 50 fathoms. Primary use is inside 40fa looking forBottom fish and bottom structure and contours

Cfood,
If the 585 has worked for you in the past then I would look at the 588. However both machines are dual frequency (50/200khz), do you have a 200Khz transducer?

I believe the 50B-6B. Speed and temp (Furuno 2250022) working either.

If we went the replacement route how about the 588 with the 526tid-Ltd 20 transducer?

Cfood,
You could go that direction. It is a flush mounted transducer that will yield so-so results.
