DST-800MSF overheating damage

Will the DST-800MSF be damaged if it is run when it is not in the water? I want to run the MFD at various times when on a lift to check waypoints, update software etc. If running the transducer when dry is not a good practice how do you suggest powering it down when out of the water? It is a NEMA2000 device. I would like to keep the NEMA 2000 network running.
Thank you

Flowmotion,
Since the DST-800MSF is most likely a drop on your NMEA 2000 backbone I would disconnect it just to be on the safe side.

Snips,
Really didn't want to cut into the cable so I either need to power off the NEMA2000 or let it run. It is a low power transducer so I was hoping it was ok to leave it running for an hour or so.

Flowmotion,
Your transducer cable should have a connector that "T's" into your NMEA 2000 backbone. If you can't find it won't hurt to let run for a little while.
