If it is the LCD, which it sounds like, it would not be economical to repair.
I would suggest replacing the unit with our FCV628. You can read more about it here:

Your transducer would work, but you would need to change the power cord. It is included.

I know quite a few people who have transitioned from the FCV600L to the FCV628, and have been quite impressed with the unit's performance.

I just purchased a new boat with a fcv582l. Will the fcv628 work in its place I would like to upgrade

Yes, the transducer will plug in but you will have to change out the power cable.
Depending on transducer you might not be able to use the accu-fish or bottom discrimination.
