AIS to 1650W ?

Hello,

I've just purchased a sail boat and am taking it via Phuket to my location. It will be in Phuket for some bottom work and the delivery skipper will collect it there. Thailand is now requiring AIS installed. I intend on (in a year of learning the current systems and what type of upgrades I would like / use) upgrading the system. However, at this time I need to install an AIS Class B to meet Thai requirements and to assist in the delivery of the yacht across the Indian Ocean.

Is it feasible to connect an AIS class b to a 1650w chart plotter? Simple as connecting the 2 transmit wires from AIS to the 2 rx wires at the chart plotter? (As well as VHF antenna and power cables)

Good morning SVIris,

Thank you for your inquiry. The GP1650W does not have the capability to display or overlay AIS targets. You could interconnect the two units but it would not provide any usable information.

We do have a Class B AIS transponder that might fulfill your requirements, the Furuno unit is called a FA50.
