We are the proud new owners of a 1979 model 23' Seacraft. It came equipped with a very old GP30 Navigator. I would like to connect it to a new Icom M412 DSC capable radio. Are the two machines compatible? What connections are required to make them communicate?

Yes, you can use the GP30 to drive GPS information to the Icom M412.
You would use the Icom NMEA IN LEAD (Red) to bring the GPS data into the radio.
Take the GP30 WHITE + NMEA output to the center of the Icom NMEA in Coax.
Then take GP30 Blue - NMEA output to the outer of the Icom NMEA in Coax.
This will then allow GPS data to be provided to the radio.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was doing and failed. Reading further in the manual I downloaded, I used the second pair of output conductors to the radio and it worked beautifully. There must be some flaw with the blue/white pair, the green/yellow work fine. Thanks again.
