1870 communication with autopilot

I had marine dealer install a Furuno 1870 gps chartplotter to upgrade my prior 1850. The dealer can not get the new 1870 to communicate with the Navico Autopilot (2000 model Navico which worked well with the Furuno 1850). Is there anything that needs to be done to allow the older model Navico Autopilot to navigate with the 1870 chartplotter?

The 1870 outputs only NMEA 2000 format and your circa 2000 Navico Autopilot uses NMEA 0183.
You would need to install a converter such as our IF-NMEA2K2 which converts N2K to 0183.

My dealer has already installed the IF-NMEA2K2. The 1870 still does not talk to the Navico autopilot.

How is that IF-NMEA2K2 connected? Did he also install an FI-5002 or do you have a NMEA2000 backbone?
