Radar display: is SB value an athwartship movement?

Dear Furuno,

I have read through FAR-2807 Series Operator's Manual but I couldnt find a clear explanation or abbreaviation of the word "SB" being displayed at the top right corner.
From what I observe, I think that the radar takes HDG (from gyrocompass) and SOG/COG (from GPS unit) as its initial input data. It then calculates and produces SPD (longitudinal speed) and SB on screen. The SB gets it negative/positive value depends upon the ship's athwartship movement is to port/starboard. I have attached with the sketch but I am not sure about this terminalogy.
I would like to find out whether SPD and SB are results of radar's mathematics calculation or not.

Best regards,

Anh

You are correct, that is exactly how it is calculating that value. SB stands for Starboard, so when moving port, it will display with a minus sign.
