HTS vs. BTW

Probably a stupid question but when navigating to a waypoint, at the top of the list of data I see HTS and BTW. Both appear to be compass headings but on my machine are always identical. What does HTS and BTW stand for and are they supposed to be identical?

Vitz,

BTW is the "Bearing To Waypoint", and HTS is the "Heading To Steer". They will only align when you are steering the vessel toward your latest waypoint...

That makes sense. When I'm navigating to a waypoint, the HTS and BTW remain identical even though I may be off course by 30 or more degrees. Is that normal?

Vitz,

I would contact our tech support regarding the issue of the course being off.

Deep Blue - :)
