Have NMEA 0183 data currently going in for apparent wind speed and direction for RD33 display.
If I multiplex GPS data into the NMEA - is that all that is necessary for the RD33 to calculate true wind direction/speed? Manual is not very clear on what it needs to calculate true wind speed/direction.

Also, is there any way to set the RD33 to 38400 baud instead of 4800?

No you can not change the baud rate of the NMEA 0183. The NMEA 2000 connection is a high speed but though. You could use a NMEA 2000 converter that can take the data off the bus at a higher baud rate in 0183 format.

Maybe this chart will help you concerning what is required.

That chart doesn't help. Just states "speed" is required for the RD33, but does not indicate what type of sentence. Is GPS adequate?

It shows speed priority is first STW (Speed thru water) and if that isn't available, then SOG (Speed over Ground). SOG from your GPS isn't valid unless moving 3 knots or better.
