Adapt Airmar B744VL to Furuno 1724C/NT

I have a depth transducer in my Airmar B744VL package that I would like to feed into my Furuno 1740C/NT. The B744VL also has speed/temp, but I am not interested in porting those to the Furuno display.

The Furuno DATA 3 cable leads to a NMEA 0183 expander with the blue and white wires leading to the expander IN ports. The yellow and green appear from the wiring diagram ready to accept echo sounder data input, but are not wired to anything currently. The Furuno NETWORK cable leads to an ethernet hub. My sounder has three leads: blue (depth +), black (depth -), and bare (depth shield), but it is not clear to me whether the data are NMEA 0183 encoded.

How would I connect these two units to display depth on my 1724C?

Thanks.

The 1740C/NT does not contain a build in sounder module. Do you have a DFF1 or BFF1 sounder box? If not the transducer will not work.

I see. No, I don't have a DFF1 or BFF1. I see the DFF1 is US$750, not including the cost of the transducer, and that it is geared for a dual-frequency fish finding. Are there no other more affordable modules for a simple depth sounder?

You might be able to find something on EBay, but those are the least expensive modules available. (Only the DFF1 is available from Furuno as the BBFF1 was discontinued an number of years ago)
