Control unit won't turn on

Navpilot 711 was working fine for months then control unit went silent. It powers up when power is supplied, displays the title screen (model name) then goes blank. No diagnostics test. Won't respond to any buttons. Only hypothesis i could come up with is the power/stndby button is internally always on. But unit is less than 2 years old and externally looks good.

Maybe a way to connect laptop to cpu to read status/err codes?

I would turn on the unit and check to see if the processor has lights and the fan is running. It might be that there is something with your power or a short that is causing the system to shut down to protect itself. If the processor is not shutting down, then it sound like the display has a problem. The good news is you are under the two year Furuno warrantee. You can contact your local dealer or send the unit in for evaluation.

Sure enough, the CPU doesn't appear to be staying on, if the fan is an indicator. Applying power does result in a soft click, but the fan never starts running. There are no lights visible, unless the lights you are talking about are on the bottom where all the connections are made? Left power on for several minutes in case the fan doesn't come on until it has heated up but nada.

Odd though that power to the display remains on. If the CPU is shutting down immediately on startup, wouldn't it turn off power to the display/control unit?

Unfortunately original dealer was on the other side of the Atlantic. Hopefully the US head office will deal with this.

Thanks for the help Johnny.
