Considering a fcv628.
Mainly fish in water less than 150 ft in Charleston SC area.
Currently struggling to differentiate bottom types with low end garmin (93 sv chirp).

Would like to Mark fish and bottom types better.

First question is help with transducer.
Does a transom mount p66 work with bottom discrimination and rezu boost?
Is this is ideal transducer for reading bottom and fish in water up to 200 ft?
Is a thru Hull transducer a better option? If so, why?

Second question is what do a get by upgrading to a 588 or such?

Many thanks for replying.

For the waters you fish, the FCV588 only offers you a larger screen. You have no need for the extra power. You didn't say the boat size but most commonly would be the P66 for your depth needs. The other two common options are the in hull B774V or the B60 pre-tilts. If the boat is trailered all the time then the P66 or the B60 pre-tilt would be best. Cost wise the FCV628 with P66 is the best bang for the buck. The P66, B744v, or B60s will offer the advance features on the FCV628.

Thanks for the info.
I have a 24 ft privateer. Dry stacked for the most part.
I took it to the keys this past summer. Hope to do the keys or gulf side of Florida at least once a year, so when it gets trailered, its a long haul.

Have an Armstrong bracket on the boat with a garmin side scan transom mount transducer on the starboard side. If I go with the p-66, would you recommend mounting it beside the garmin transducer or on the port side?

Thanks.
