A buddy of mine has a GP1871 chart plotter / fish finder w/ Airmar (transducer not sure What model), can a second GP1871 be run off the same Trasnducer?
If so, how? If not can the second unit be used as standalone chart plotter / GPS? Thanks for any help!

Update: Transducer = Airmar 744V / Furuno 525STID-MSD

FoolingFish4Fun,

Sorry...no. You only can connect one transducer to the GP1871F, and are not able to have that transducer "shared" with other units. However, you can run the second GP1871F as an independent chart plotter.

Thank you DB for your response. As I figured. The second unit he has acquired does not have a C-map chip. is this required to operate? I assume yes, but want an expert opinion. Thanks again!

FoolingFish4Fun,

Yes, each GP1871F/GP1971F requires it's individual C-Map Card to conduct it's detailed charting. The unit's only come with a basic base chart.
